Stunning nature, family-friendly activities, a rich cultural heritage and numerous annual events draw people from all over the world.
While we account for only two percent of Sweden's population, we produce a quarter of the country's chicken, nearly all of the brown beans, and just over a tenth of the nation's milk, eggs, and beef. We have a thriving forestry and wood processing sector where we work closely with our neighbors in Småland. Here, traditional industries meet innovation and fresh thinking, driving the green transition forward.
Most of our larger companies operate within the industrial sector, and many of these are world leaders in their fields. We’re internationally competitive in manufacturing, thanks to strong entrepreneurship and technological advancements, which has enabled us to develop a modern, efficient and sustainable industry sector.
We may become completely fossil fuel-free by 2030, thanks to political will, our sustainable forest resources and ideal conditions for developing alternative energy such as wind power, solar energy, biogas and hydrogen. Across the region, investments are being made in green electricity production. Linked to a center for new energy technology, world-leading research is underway, and cutting-edge solutions are being tested.
We are at the forefront of e-commerce and digital services, with e-health emerging as our strongest field. This attracts both exciting new establishments and start-ups, thanks in large part to a regional eHealth Arena and knowledge hubs at Linnaeus University.
