A FIRST TASTE OF THE COUNTY
Summarizing everything that happens here is no easy task, but we’ve tried. Below are five key elements that contribute to the essence of Kalmar County
SOMETHING FOR BOTH BELLY AND PRODUCT PORTFOLIO
While we account for only two percent of Sweden's population, we produce a quarter of the country's chicken, nearly all of the brown beans, and just over a tenth of the nation's milk, eggs, and beef. We have a thriving forestry and wood processing sector where we work closely with our neighbors in Småland. Here, traditional industries meet innovation and fresh thinking, driving the green transition forward.
A DISH OF LOCAL INGREDIENTS
Most of our larger companies operate within the industrial sector, and many of these are world leaders in their fields. We’re internationally competitive in manufacturing, thanks to strong entrepreneurship and technological advancements, which has enabled us to develop a modern, efficient and sustainable industry sector.
THE RECIPE FOR LASTING ENERGY
We aim to become fossil fuel-free by 2030. Due to our forest resources, we are well provided when it comes to prerequisites for renewable and sustainable solutions such as wind power, solar energy, biogas and hydrogen. Across the region, green investments are in progress, where new technologies are put in place. Linked to a competence center for New Energy technology (CNETO), world-leading research is underway, and cutting-edge solutions are being tested when it comes to renewable energy sources as well as next-generation nuclear power.
